Group Show: A Take On Nature

MICHALE J. AHN (b. 1988) recently graduated from Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania with a BA in Biology and Studio Art.  Now living in Astoria, Queens, he works in a biology lab and paints in his apartment, all the while contemplating whether to retreat to the cold mountains. He is fascinated by natural history, ornithology, mythology, and Cy Twombly.
HOLLY DOWNING studied painting and printmaking at UC Santa Cruz and printmaking at the Royal College of Art, London. She has had solo shows in London, Manila, Edinburgh, Seattle, Santa Rosa, Santa Jose and San Francisco, and participated in group exhibitions and biennales around the world. An elected member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, U.K., her work is in many public collections, including the Achenbach Foundation, Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco; Stanford University, California, and many more.
NIF HODGSON is a San Francisco artist working in traditional and contemporary etching and letterpress techniques.  She is an artist-in-residence and teacher at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley and is currently pursuing a master's degree at San Francisco State University. 
PHILIPPE LAMESCH was born in Luxembourg and moved to Boston, MA for his graduate degree in molecular biology in 2001. He studied printmaking in evening courses at the SMFA in Boston while pursuing his PhD and participated in many group shows during that time. Philippe had two major solo shows, in 2003 in Luxembourg and in 2010 in New York City. He is currently an artist-in-residence at the KALA Art Institute and works as science curator at the Carnegie Institute.
EMILY MACDONALD is a California based printer, sculptor, and painter, exploring the link between the natural world and the human body.  She studied at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington, and received her bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from Mills College in Oakland, California.  In 2003 she was a resident artist at Burren College of Art in County Clare, Ireland.  From 2008 to 2010 she was a resident artist at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California and is currently a member of the California Society of Printmakers.
SHANNON MILAR was born in San Francisco in 1973. In 1995 she earned a BFA in Graphic Design and maintains a professional practice of art direction, graphic design and web design.
In 2007, she earned professional qualification as an etcher-printmaker certified by Il Bisonte International Specialization School of Printmaking, Florence, Italy and by the Region of Tuscany. She is currently an artist-in-residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California.
SEIKO TACHIBANA was born in Japan and completed her Masters of Art Education at Kobe University, Japan. She received an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 1995, and has since received many awards including Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation Award. She has been living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1993. Her distinctive work balances Asian tradition with minimalist modernity. Tachibana’s work has shown internationally also can be found in the Los Angeles County Museum, Fine Art Museums of San Francisco the Legion of the Honor, Portland Art Museum as well as a number of other museums, institutios and individual collections throughout USA, Europe and Japan.
